Shark Cage Diving
There are not many places on the planet where you can come face to face with a great white shark and in that's why the town of Gansbaai is considered the world center for shark diving
Gansbaai, two and a half hours along the coast from Cape Town, is one of the few places in the world where you can come face-to-face with a great white shark in its natural habitat — safely, from inside a steel cage at the surface.
No diving licence, no oxygen tank, no prior experience required.

What the day will be like
We collect you from your hotel in the early morning and drive east along the Atlantic coast, through Hermanus and on to Gansbaai. The route is one of the most scenic stretches of coastline in the country — fynbos cliffs, coastal towns, and the open ocean to your right the whole way.
In Gansbaai, the trip starts with light refreshments and a safety briefing. From the harbour, the boat ride to Geyser Rock and Dyer Island takes around thirty minutes. This is where the cage dive happens — Geyser Rock is home to one of the largest seal colonies in the southern hemisphere, which is exactly why the great whites patrol these waters.
During the dive itself, you stay close to the surface inside a steel cage attached to the boat. Three hours at sea typically delivers far more than just sharks: whales, dolphins, penguins, fur seals, and enormous numbers of seabirds are all common sightings.
We return to shore for light refreshments and a screening of video footage from the day, which you can take home if you'd like. Back in Cape Town by early evening.
Good to Know
- Operates seven days a week, year-round — not seasonal
- Boats do not depart in unfavourable weather, so the trip is sometimes rescheduled at short notice
- No diving licence or experience required — the cage stays at the surface
- Wetsuits, masks, and snorkels are provided
- Bring a windproof jacket, a change of warm clothes, and seasickness tablets if you're prone (the open ocean can be choppy)
- Light meals and drinks are included; lunch is typically a snack rather than a full meal
- Children from around 12 are welcome, depending on swimming confidence
- Whale season (August to November) overlaps with the route — the day often combines beautifully with whale watching at Hermanus
- Door-to-door transport from your hotel and Czech-speaking guide included
