Safari in South Africa

From a single morning's game drive near Cape Town to multi-week journeys through Kruger and beyond — every safari built around how you actually like to travel.

A safari in South Africa is simply unmissable!

A safari is the experience most travellers come to Africa for, and South Africa is one of the easiest places in the world to do it well. Whether you have a single morning to fit one in or three weeks to spend in the bush, we'll plan a safari that matches your budget, pace, and travel style — from a quick Big 5 day out of Cape Town to a slow week tracking leopards in the Greater Kruger.

Why safari with us

  • Direct relationships with lodges across the country, from Western Cape day reserves to the Greater Kruger
  • Czech-speaking guidance throughout — even when local rangers don't speak the language
  • Honest advice on which reserves match your priorities: Big 5 versus slow birding, luxury versus rustic
  • Internal flights, transfers, dietary requirements, and lodge bookings handled
  • Family-friendly options — not all safari lodges welcome children, but many do, and we know which

How we plan it

For a quick taste, a day or two at Aquila or Garden Route Game Lodge gives you Big 5 without committing to a long trip.

For a proper safari trip, Kruger and the Greater Kruger reserves — Sabi Sand, Timbavati, Klaserie — deliver the most reliable Big 5 sightings on earth.

For something different, Madikwe in the north, Addo in the south, Pilanesberg near Sun City, or private reserves in the Eastern Cape.

For a bigger journey, combine safari with the Cape, the Garden Route, Namibia, Botswana, or Victoria Falls.

Learn more about Safari in South Africa

Safaris in South Africa can be done both in national parks and in private reserves. You have the option to camp or stay in luxurious resorts (lodges), where none of your wishes will go unfulfilled.

A safari trip can be completed within one day, but we recommend allocating more days for this excursion and spending at least one night in a national park. You'll then have the opportunity to go on a night drive, where you'll see and hear animals that are asleep during the day.

Even if you stay in your African bungalow, the magical atmosphere of the wild will literally breathe on you; you'll hear the sounds of hyenas, elephants, antelopes, and other animals, and smell unfamiliar scents. These will be very intense experiences that will exceed all expectations.

Accommodation in national parks must be booked well in advance, especially if you are traveling during the tourist season.

Camps typically have well-equipped bungalows where you can prepare your own food, tents with beds and a refrigerator. The camps are clean and well-maintained; after your safari trip, you can cool off in the pool.

It's good to go on a safari with a guide who will show you animals that are easy to overlook and provide lots of interesting information. If you still decide to go alone, rent a car with elevated clearance.

In national parks, such as Kruger National Park or Addo Elephant National Park, you can move freely along marked routes (asphalt or dirt). For safety reasons, however, it is not permitted to leave the vehicle. In some private reserves, you can only go on a safari with a local guide.

Good to Know

  • The Big 5 are lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffalo
  • Many reserves are malaria-free — including Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Madikwe, and parts of the Greater Kruger. We'll always tell you upfront which areas need anti-malarials
  • Best wildlife viewing is generally May to September (dry season — animals concentrate at water sources)
  • Most reserves run morning and afternoon game drives, with a midday break — early starts are part of the deal
  • We arrange airport transfers, internal flights, and lodge bookings as part of any multi-day safari
  • Czech-speaking guide throughout — including on internal travel days
