Destination Guide
Cape Town
The Mother City — and our home. Everything you need to plan your stay, plus the day trips we run from here.
Cape Town is undoubtedly the jewel of the Republic of South Africa and one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Mountain on one side, two oceans on the other, and a quality of light that makes everything look slightly cinematic. South Africans call it the Mother City because it's where European settlement of the country began.
Whether you're here for a long weekend or using the city as a base for a longer Southern Africa trip, the pages below will help you plan — and we're always at the end of an email if you'd rather just talk it through.
THE LAY OF THE LAND
Cape Town Explained

Thanks to Cape Town's unique location, it's possible to visit several sights the city offers in just one day.
Table Mountain anchors the city — its flat-topped summit visible from almost everywhere, with Table Mountain National Park spread around it. South of the city, the Cape Peninsula stretches toward the Cape of Good Hope, and the road that gets you there includes Chapman's Peak Drive, a narrow, cliff-cut route between Noordhoek and Hout Bay that's worth the trip on its own.
The beaches are a must see. The Atlantic side — Camps Bay, Clifton, Llandudno — is dramatic and cold, even in summer. False Bay, around the corner, runs about ten degrees warmer thanks to a different current, and that's where you'll find Boulders Beach with its resident colony of African penguins.
Inland, the Cape Winelands sit forty-five minutes east — Stellenbosch, Paarl, and Franschhoek between them holding more than 250 wine estates and a serious dining scene.
East along the coast, Hermanus runs an annual whale festival to mark the southern right whales arriving in Walker Bay each August.
